The Saddlers’ Company and Society of Master Saddlers were delighted to recognise Lucy Cushley’s outstanding leather craft skills at the recent National Saddlery Competition. Aimed at celebrating the best of British Saddlery and Championing the workmanship of its apprentices, workforce and trainees, the annual event is held at the prestigious Saddlers’ Hall in the City of London.
Lucy won in the Presidents’ Choice Class which this year had the theme of ‘Scrap Box to Top Notch’; with the item being produced from at least 60% recycled or re-purposed leather and other materials. Lucy’s depiction of a turtle clearly caught the judges eye and she was delighted by the outcome.
