The first cohort of leather, saddlery and craft entrepreneurs have completed the Bayes Business School ‘Business for Creatives’ Programme. Run over 3 days, the course sought to provide new entrepreneurial knowledge and skill for those in the creative sector growing their own business or further building on existing success.
Catherine Baker of CB Saddlery commented: ‘ I found it incredibly insightful to connect with business owners from similar but slightly different fields. It’s a testament to the fact that businesses often face similar challenges, regardless of their industry. I feel we have developed camaraderie, which will last and provide us with the opportunity to learn from one another. All the lecturers were fantastic and we all took something useful away from each session. Bill Amberg’s chat on the final day was excellent and provided essential practical advice for any business owner!’.
The programme was jointly sponsored by Bayes Business School and the Saddlers’ Company. Special thanks must go to the inspirational lecturers and academic staff who so generously gave of their time to support those that would benefit most from their knowledge, skill and experience. Plans are afoot to offer many more business focused opportunities to those in our sector who often face real challenges in accessing such training.
Renowned leather businessman Bill Amberg wrapped up the course with an inspirational address which provided many examples of ‘best practice’ for attendees. Bill Amberg Studio has existed for over 30 years, and today stands as an industry leader in bespoke leather products, interiors and furniture. Bringing together designers and artisans from the worlds of saddlery, case-making, bookbinding and other forms of fine leathercraft, the studio has a mission to explore the aesthetic and material possibilities of leather.
