# How Do I Join the Livery

Joining a livery company generally means becoming a Freeman through one of several routes such as patrimony, servitude or redemption, then progressing to the Livery itself. For how to join the Saddlers' Company specifically, see how do I join the Saddlers.[^page]

## Membership Across the Livery Movement

Membership of a livery company should reflect the interests and purposes of that company, typically balancing trade, patrimony and equestrian or other specialist members depending on the company. Membership at all levels comes with rights and privileges dependent on an individual's position within the company, and with membership comes an expectation of engagement and support.

For the Saddlers' Company specifically, membership balances trade, patrimony and equestrian members, and the Company expects members to engage at every level, offering support, financial or otherwise, where and when they can.
